There's a Fungus Foray happening at the nearby Harcourt Arboretum (a 15-minute drive away). I have access to an 8-seater people-mover so say 'sign me up' in a comment below if you would like to come along and we'll hopefully fill out the car.

It costs £2 each, but I'm hoping it's good fun and could potentially open up a way into very cheap and delicious (if time-consuming) meals, as there are those University woods around Wytham...

For those of you that are going to miss this Sunday's foray and maybe even for people who just really like it, there's another mushroom hunt
happening near Oxford.

At Brasenose Woods in Shotover Country Park Peter Creed is going to help with identification of different fungi (including which ones to avoid, I'm sure) and will explore some facts and folklore.

For directions go to http://www.shotover-wildlife.org.uk/sw_how2get2.htm but this is definitely a manageable bike ride, so we should be able to set off together.

We're teaming up with the Slow Food Oxon group for a cheese tasting at the Vaults & Garden on Radcliffe Square. Robert Pouget (who owns the Oxford Cheese Company) will have a display of cheeses, including local ones, for us all to try, and we'll be talking taste, accompaniments, wine matching, cheese boards etc. Hopefully you will find some new cheeses that you otherwise would have ignored, which you could buy at either the Woodstock Road Deli or the Oxford Cheese Company's bar in the Covered Market. The entrance price is only £5 for students and you can buy your own drinks from the bar.

Through Slow Food Student at least 6 students are going to be holding cooking classes on Thursday of 4th week (1st November).

If you want to learn where to buy the best ingredients for your meals as well as how to prepare good food (that doesn't break the bank) even in college kitchens then sign up to take part by emailing info@slowfood-student.org.uk.

Me and Arabella (and hopefully Dillon - the one who knows what he's doing) are heading down to our allotment at the Trap Grounds on Sunday. Leave a comment below if you're keen to come along to help too. We'll meet outside the Anchor Pub (at the far end of Kingston Road) at 2pm and walk to the allotment together, otherwise no-one will find their way there!
